Westmoreland History is home to two destinations in one: the Education Center and Historic Hanna’s Town. Explore exhibits and dig into local roots at the Calvin E. Pollins Memorial Library, browse one-of-a-kind finds in our gift shop, and wander walking trails and gardens across the property. Whether you’re here for an afternoon or planning a full day out, there’s plenty of Westmoreland County history to discover.

Start your visit at the Education Center, where our team can point you toward the exhibits, library resources, or trail you’re most excited about.

Hours & Admission

Starting in 2026, admission to the Kendra Gallery, the Calvin E. Pollins Memorial Library, and Historic Hanna’s Town is donation-based, in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Guided tours of Hanna’s Town are available for an additional fee.

Historic Hanna's Town

As a Westmoreland County Park, visitors are welcome to walk our grounds dawn-dusk.

The grounds at Historic Hanna’s Town are subject to Westmoreland County Park Policies.

Directions to Westmoreland History

Westmoreland History is located at 809 Forbes Trail Road in Greensburg, just off Route 22 and Route 119, about 35 minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh.

Parking is available at the Education Center and along Hannastown Road, with handicap parking near the Steel Farmhouse.

Please note:

If you are using an internet generated map, enter the address 809 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg, PA 15601, not Hannastown. This may lead you to the village of Hannastown, a former coal-company town unrelated to the historic site.

Directions

To get to Westmoreland History from your starting point, select the route below that matches your direction of travel.

From Route 22 East

Take Route 22 East from Monroeville through Murrysville.
Cross over Route 66 at Delmont and continue to the intersection of Routes 22 & 819. There is a traffic light at this intersection.
Make a right turn and continue on Rt. 819 for approximately 4.1 miles. (You will pass the village of Forbes Road.)
Make a left as you reach the intersection at the crest of a small hill. This is Forbes Trail Road.
Follow the winding road approximately 1.5 miles.
To park at the Education Center, prepare to turn left as you descend down a steep, curving hill. The Education Center parking lot will be on the left. and
To park in the lot along Hanna’s Town Road, go past the fort and tavern to the intersection.Turn left on to Hannastown Road and make a quick left turn into the parking lot.

From Route 22 West

Take Route 22 West to Route 119 South at New Alexandria.
Follow the road through Crabtree. Bear right just after a restaurant/roadhouse on to Forbes Trail Road.
Look for the Parking sign at the intersection of the Forbes Road and Hannastown Road.
Make a right and then make a quick left turn into the parking lot, or go straight and turn right at the Education Center.

From the PA Turnpike (New Stanton Exit)

Exit the turnpike and follow Route 119 North to Greensburg.
Follow Main Street/Route 119 into town.
Stay in the right lane, and make a right on to East Pittsburgh Street, which is one way going East (Rt. 119).
The Westmoreland County Courthouse will be on your left at this intersection.
Either cross Main Street or make the right on to East Pittsburgh Street, and get into the left lane.
Go to the second traffic light and make a left on to Arch Street. You'll see signs for Rt. 119 and Historic Hanna's Town.
Stay in the right lane and go through the railroad tunnel.
Stay in the right lane and go through the intersection following Rt. 119 North. You'll pass a Sheetz convenience store on your left.
Follow Route 119 North past the Greensburg Recreation facilities at Lynch Field (on the right). All Saints Brewery is on the right at the intersection of Rt. 119 and Roseytown Road.
Follow the road for approximately 2 miles. You'll see a sign for "Hanna's Town" on your right.
Make the next left on to Hannastown Road (State Rt. 1055).
Follow the road to the next intersection; the fort is in the field on your left.
Go through the intersection and make a left turn into the parking lot, or turn left on Forbes Trail Road and then right into the Education Center parking lot.

From the PA Turnpike (Irwin Exit)

Exit the turnpike on to Route 30 East to Greensburg.
Near Greensburg, you'll come to a large intersection with a shopping center (Gabriel Brothers) on your left and signs for Mt. Odin Park on your right.
Go through the intersection and get into the right lane.
Take the East Pittsburgh Street Exit to Greensburg. (East Pittsburgh Street is one-way going east through town.) You'll pass Westmoreland Hospital on the right.
Go through the intersection of Main and East Pittsburgh Streets. The Westmoreland County Courthouse is on the left.
Either cross Main Street or make the right on to East Pittsburgh Street, and get into the left lane.
Go to the second traffic light and make a left on to Arch Street. You'll see signs for Rt. 119 and Historic Hanna's Town.

From Route 119 (Greensburg)

Go to the second traffic light and make a left on to Arch Street. You will see signs for Rt. 119 and Historic Hanna’s Town.
Stay in the right lane and go through the railroad tunnel.
Stay in the right lane and go through the intersection following Rt. 119 North. You will pass a Sheetzconvenience store on your left.
Follow Route 119 North past the Greensburg Recreation facilities at Lynch Field (on the right). The All Saints Brewery is on the right at the intersection of Rt.119 and Roseytown Road.
Follow the road for approximately 2 miles. You will see a sign for “Hanna’s Town” on your right.
Make the next left on to the Hannastown Road (State Rt. 1055).
Follow the road to the next intersection; the fort is in the field on your left.
Go through the intersection and make a left turn into the parking lot, or turn left on Forbes Trail Road and then right into the Education Center parking lot.

From Route 30 West

Follow Route 30 West towards Greensburg past the Mountain View Inn.
Follow Rt. 30 to the intersection of George’s Station Road and make a right. You will see a Holiday Inn Express and a Red Lobster on the left, and a car dealership, Sunoco station and Vallozzi’s Restaurant on the right.
Go through the intersection of Donohoe & George’s Station (four-way stop signs) and follow George’s Station Road.
You will come to a ‘Y’ in the road; bear to the right.
Make a left on to Cameo Lane and follow it to the intersection of Rt. and make a left.
Bear to the right on to Forbes Trail Road just past the restaurant on the right.
Look for the Parking sign at the intersection of the Forbes Road and Hannastown Road.
Make a right at the stop sign and then make a quick left turn into the parking lot, or go straight through the intersection and turn right at the Education Center.

Parking

Parking for regular site visits is available in the gravel and paved lots at the Education Center or in the gravel lot along Hannastown Road. Admissions is located in the Education Center. If you park in the lot along Hannastown Road, enjoy a walk up the crushed gravel pathway past the log buildings to the Education Center.

Handicap parking is available next to the Steel Farmhouse and at the far end of the Education Center. Both lots have easy access to the Education Center entrances.

Reenactments and Antiques Markets

For special events such as Frontier Court Days and the Antiques & Collectibles Markets, parking is available in the field along Hannastown Road.

At the intersection of Hannastown Road and Forbes Trail Road, turn south along Hannastown Road and look for the parking sign on the right.

For Court Days and other large reenactments, handicap parking is available at the Education Center.

When you spend a day at Westmoreland History, you’ll travel through centuries of Westmoreland County’s story. Tour a reconstructed Revolutionary War-era fort, step inside a frontier tavern, and see an authentic Conestoga wagon at Historic Hanna’s Town. Trace your own family’s roots at the Calvin E. Pollins Memorial Library, home to thousands of genealogical records and reference books. Then slow down and wander the grounds, from pollinator gardens along Forbes Trail Road to walking trails winding through meadow and woodland. And before you go, stop by the gift shop for a piece of history to take home.

Guided Tours of Historic Hanna’s Town

Discover the history of Hanna’s Town on a guided tour. Learn about the town’s unique role as the first seat of government for Westmoreland County and life on the Pennsylvania frontier during the American Revolution.

Admissions is located in the shop of the Education Center.
Each tour is approximately 60 to 90 minutes and led by a trained guide.
A significant portion of the tour takes place outdoors and requires walking, so please plan accordingly. Some buildings require walking up steps.

Genealogy and Regional History Library

The Calvin E. Pollins Memorial Library is the premier resource for studying the history of Westmoreland County. Our non-circulating library includes over 5,000 historical reference books, genealogical records, and original documents of local interest.

Westmoreland History Shop

The Westmoreland History Shop offers a variety of carefully-selected, history-inspired gifts and keepsakes. Open during regular hours.

Browse books from local, regional, and national authors and publishers including the History Press and Arcadia Publishing. Find educational, vintage-style toys, games, and books for children. Enjoy collections of historically reproduced dishware, handmade jewelry, home decor, candles, teas, jams, and baking mixes. Merchandise changes with the seasons and various programs we offer throughout the year.

Visit our grounds dawn to dusk and explore a variety of fascinating historical and natural points interest at Historic Hanna’s Town.

Read about the history of Hanna's Town on interpretive waysides located in front of Hanna's Tavern and the Fort.
Enjoy our pollinator gardens along Forbes Trail Road and in the area between the Education Center and historic village.

Cut from the Same Cloth: A Turn of a Phrase Explored Through Historic Clothing Styles, will feature a variety of clothes from designer fashion to feed-sack dresses and explore the many associations the idiom has with the centrality that clothing has with our lives – past and present. The garments were selected from the Westmoreland Historical Society collection for their aesthetic, historic, and interpretive value, as well as their association with the people who have called Westmoreland County home. The items range in date from the early 19th through mid-20th centuries.
